While I suppose the term "lek" has achieved its own international/anglicised pronunciation, it can be noted that it is derived from the Swedish word "lek" (meaning play) which is pronounced with a long e, similar in length to "leek" (though with an e sound rather than an i sound).

In the late 80s I remember my mom watching nature documentaries on Discovery Channel. There was an episode of divers in reefs and one diver grabbing and handling a sea snake the commentator went on to say how venomous they are and how the bite can easily penetrate the diver's wet suit. Knowing where the diver was and how far to the nearest hospital, he would be dead. Later in the summer of 1989 we took a family vacation through the Florida Keys and did a snorkeling swim at the John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park. After getting back to the boat other kids were saying they were scared of the barracudas and other mean looking fish, I told the boat captain I was worried of Sea Snakes, he looked at me like" whatever ok?". Years later when the internet became popular, I found out why there are no sea snakes to worry about in the Atlantic. I suppose if Sea Snakes did live there then there would be warning signs and hospitals stocked with anti-venom.

  • @_Animikii_

only 46 seconds in but wanna mention that crabs, lobsters, and i think if i remember right, both alligators and sharks have basically evolved in several different specesis over and over or in other words, the creature we associate today with those shapes end up being a similar pattern that different species all together keep evolving into and the funny this that also is a great way to demonstrate evolution is that this happens because thats just the best shape to fit into each niche for what the creatures who use that general body shape intend to do as they live their lives so in a way, its like mulptiple different creatures getting fed through progressively specific sieves until they all look the exact same with only minor differences that do still distinguish them as completely different technically evolutionarly speaking.

Hyraxes are weird little guys. And they've been around for a long time, with mentions in the Bible! "(24) Four things on earth are small, yet they are extremely wise: (25) Ants are creatures of little strength, yet they store up their food in the summer; (26) hyraxes are creatures of little power, yet they make their home in the crags;"- Proverbs 30:24-26
